How many seats are on your bus?
Coach Bus - 55 Adults
Large School Bus - 65 Children/43 Adults
Mini School Bus - 20 Children/ 14 Adults

Are your coach buses equipped with video players?
Island Charter coach buses are equipped with VHS/DVD players and television monitors. (Customers are responsible for supplying their own videos.)

Are pets allowed on board?
Island Charter does not allow animals on any of our vehicles.

Is there room to store luggage and other items?
Island Charter’s Coach buses are equipped with luggage bays and extra storage compartments that are capable of storing luggage.

Which of your vehicles are available for charter?
Island Charter’s fleet of vehicles includes mini school buses, large schools buses and coach buses. All three types are available for charter. When inquiring about a trip, please indicate which vehicle you prefer.

What qualifications do Island Charter drivers have?
Island Charter retains highly-qualified, professionally-trained drivers who comply with the federal and state Department of Transportation motor vehicle regulations and NYC Board of Education Requirements. Island Charter drivers are required to complete medical reviews, background and driving record checks. They receive extensive training and safety workshops, and are subject to random drug and alcohol testing. This ensures that only the most qualified drivers are permitted behind the wheel.

When is payment due?
Charter Bus - Effective September 1, 2009 - $200 Deposit/per bus will be required upon booking. Final payments are due in full before the chartered bus departs from the pick up location.

School Bus - Effective September 1, 2009 - Final payments are due in full before the chartered bus departs from the pick up location.

What forms of payment do you accept?
Island Charter accepts organization, certified or personal checks, money orders, credit cards (Visa, Master Card, Discover & American Express), and NYC BOE Purchase Orders.

Where do you have authority to travel?
Island Charter has authority to travel across the entire United States, Canada, and Mexico.

What about insurance?
Island Charter goes above and beyond the minimum insurance requirements – offering an insurance policy that is twice the USDOT requirement. We offer a $10,000,000.00 insurance policy for all vehicles with adult passenger capacity of 20+; $5,000,000.00 insurance policy for all vehicles with adult passenger capacity of 20-.

Is smoking or alcohol allowed on the buses?
There is no smoking or alcohol allowed on any of Island Charter’s buses.

What if I lost of left something on an Island Charter vehicle?
Island Charter assumes no responsibility for lost or damaged baggage/personal property. However, you may inquire for lost items within 7 days at 718.448.4006 or via email at service@islandcharter.com.

On an overnight trip should I find a hotel room for the driver?
It is the sole responsibility of the customer to make necessary overnight arrangements for the driver and incur the charges for the hotel room accommodations. (Drivers must also receive a $50 food allowance for each overnight stay.)

How much should I tip the driver?
We request that you express your gratuity on an individual basis and let the quality of your service received be your guide. However, it is customary to tip the driver 5% - 10% of the trip cost. Island Charter drivers and escorts always greatly appreciate your gratuity and recognition for a job well done!

How far in advance should I book a trip?
Island Charter’s fleet of vehicles are on a first come- first serve basis. Since it’s never too soon to organize your calendar and make arrangements, we recommended that you book your bus as soon as possible. Since there are certain times of the year that are busiest (football, wedding season, summer, etc.), do not hesitate to book with us a year in advance!

What if I have to cancel? Can I get a refund?
In the event of a cancellation, Island Charter requires that the customer cancel this in writing and submit, either via fax to 718.816.6171 or e-mail to service@islandcharter.com.

*There is no cancellation fee if a trip is cancelled at least 12 hours before scheduled pick up time.

What happens if I forget cancel my trip?
If a cancellation is not made within 12 hours of departure, Island Charter reserves the right to bill full payment for the trip.
